High School Expectations
All aspects of 8th grade and high school science programs must be aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum for Science and implemented within and across grade levels to meet or exceed the standards and expectations. Course/Credit Content Expectations have been developed to provide all educators with a common understanding of what high school students should know and be able to do at the completion of each credit/course.

High School Priority Expectations
Please click HERE to visit a site, specifically developed for the priority expecations. The priority expectations help to "narrow the scope" of instruction. It is a complement to the High School Companion Documents. Included are: graphic organizers; big ideas; core concepts; suggestions for implementation of inquiry, reflection, and social implication expectations, and expectations that have been priortitized.
HS Companion Documents
The Michigan Department of Education has produced a series of Companion Documents to help educators get a "clearer picture" of the High School Science Expectations. Inside this folder, you will find the companion documents for Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics. Each document illustrates how the subject matter can be divided into 12 units. The documents provide additional clarification for each of the expectations. Vocabulary is listed for each unit. Instructional examples are also provided.
ACT and MME Correlation Document
State standards match documents provide user-friendly information about how the domain of the knowledge and skills that ACT's tests measure align with the state's standards. Two documents are present for each state.
The state match report summarizes the findings of the match, as well as showing the specific state standards and objectives that are measured by ACT's EPAS tests (EXPLORE for 8th/9th graders, PLAN for 10th grade, and the ACT for 11th/12th grade) and, for many states, ACT's WorkKeys Tests (Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information). Those state standards that are included in the domain of knowledge and skills measured by ACT's tests are clearly indicated by highlighting. The reports also show those ACT College Readiness Standards that were not identified in the state's standards.
The supplement is a side-by-side listing of specific ACT College Readiness Skills and WorkKeys Level Skills (if included) that correspond to the state standards measured by ACT's tests.

Essential Expectations Only
This document only include the essential expectations, it does not include any of the core expectations. The primary value of this document is to clearly identify the material that will be assessed on the Michigan Merit Exam.
Two Targets for Graduation
The Michigan Department of Education has defined the rules regarding the Michigan Merit Curriculum. Please click on this link to view an article describing the two targets found within the rules. One target is for graduation and the other is for the Michigan Merit Exam.
